Summer sewing

It's summer time! Time for beaches, ice creams, lazing around with friends on warm evenings, and camping. (Or that's the theory, anyway. Depending on how fickle the weather is on the day!)

And for those of us to sew, it's also the perfect time to make a new summer dress or top. ;-)

Want some ideas of what to make? Here's a few of the gorgeous summer patterns we have in store....

You could make something glamourous for lounging around on the weekend, eating berries and reading a good book in the sunshine. The Asaka kimono from Named looks so much fun to wear, with its dramatic sleeves.

Do you have a high tea, a day at the races, or a summer wedding to go to? The Crepe dress from Colette is a vintage-inspired woven wrap dress that crosses at the back. With cap sleeves and the choice of two necklines, it's a gorgeously feminine summer style.

The Alameda pattern from Pauline Alice is a three-in-one pattern. Make it as a cute summer dress, as a skirt, and even as a matching cropped top! The princess seams are perfect for adding piping, and the pockets make it great for wearing out without having to carry a bag.

The Sylvie dress from Christine Haynes comes with two skirt options - a straight skirt, or a dirndl style skirt with patch pockets. The dirndl skirt is perfect for using border prints and patterns, such as this gorgeous yellow broderie.

For a pretty, casual sun dress, there's the Eliana dress by Pauline Alice. With options for both sleeveless and with sleeves, this pattern will take you through all seasons.

Looking for something to wear to summer bbq parties? Try the Bridgetown Backless dress and tunic by Sew House Seven! The loose-fitting bodice and open back make it perfect for warm days and evenings, and the jewel neckline in front is perfect for adding a long necklace for casual summer glamour.

Which patterns are you planning on sewing for summer? I'm in the middle of sewing the Sylvie dress by Christine Haynes, and the Rose City Halter Dress is also high on my list! Perfect for going straight from work to the beach or bbq.
